Oberlin Violin Makers Foundation

Developing A Legacy

The  goals of the Oberlin Violin Makers Foundation are to promote the art of violin making by identifying worthy projects, acquiring and sharing  information, and facilitating research in the field of bowed string instrument making.

The Oberlin Violin Makers Foundation was established in 2017 as a 501(c)3 non-profit association. Among the many ways the Foundation elevates the level of knowledge of violin making is to identify examples of fine historical instruments, and when it is impractical to provide direct access of those instruments to the participants of the Oberlin workshop, to support their study through non-destructive technological means, such as detailed photos, CT scanning, and high resolution 3D scanning.  The information gathered is added to the ever expanding archives for future makers to study.
